Today marks exactly 2 months since I sent out my first round of 25 submissions of my young adult fantasy fiction novel to literary agents. Since this is my first go around of submissions I didn’t know what to expect or what kind of responses/response times I could expect. Here are the current stats:
NO’s = 14
Waiting for reply = 10
Request for full manuscript = 1
The last stat is pretty exciting, I have had one agency request my full manuscript. It wasn’t a for sure yes but it also wasn’t a no. As a writer it was extremely validating for an agency to ask for the first 50 pages and within hours be so intrigued and ask for the rest of the manuscript. I am still waiting for response from this particular agency and in the meantime I plan to send 25 more submissions. Every eight weeks I plan to send 25 submissions until I get a solid yes. And it only takes one yes!
This journey has been absolutely thrilling I am pursuing my dream, doing what I love, and living my own personal legend (thank you Pualo Coelho). After about the 10th “no” from an agent you kind of get a thicker skin and it doesn’t seem so devastating, so when I had an agent request my full manuscript I swear I took off on a rocketship to the moon… I have never been so excited! It made me feel like “I’m actually a writer, I’m actually a good writer…”
To be continued….
